Hello again Summer

No, not the season as much as I wish it were. Summer is a lovely Sheltie girl I met last year at an agility trial. She’s had a rough time early on being from a puppy mill where the adult dogs were tossed in a pen and left to feed on whatever they could. The scars from her ordeal are still there. When we first met, she was extremely shy, especially toward men. I spent a bit of time getting to know her and got some nice images of her during her runs as well.
This past weekend, I ran into Summer at a trial again. She’s still a little skittish, but who wouldn’t be. She did come up to me (there were some treats involved) and demonstrate her “touch” and “down” for me. Her human is doing great things for Summer and it shows.
RIP PJ

PJ at the Bichon Bash
Meet PJ. He was our second client at the Capitol BIshon Bash this year. At first, his human seemed a little reluctant to have a sitting with us and we though it was because they had just arrived and PJ might need to settle in a bit first from the excitement of meeting up with 250 or so of his fellow little white fluff-balls. However, a moment later we learned that she wasn’t sure it would work because PJ wasn’t feeling well.
It turns out that PJ had cancer. It came up on his shoulder, but had been under the muscle and undetectable for too long. The cancer spread to his lungs and there was little to do but keep him happy and comfortable.
When I heard the news I basically begged for the session and told his mom “if it doesn’t work, we’ll just forget about it.”
I think we managed a few good images and this is one of my favorites. I love his little Bichon Smile.
After the session, I held PJ, his fluffy white hair soaking up my tears while Tammy got all the contact details so we can get the photos where they need to go.
PJ left us a few days later.

I AM dog hear me ROAR

I sure love my job!
I did a shoot last night for Andrew from “Greatest American Dog” along with his two brothers Geoffery and Leo. Geoffery is the tiniest little dog I think I’ve ever seen. I mean he looks small compared to a tea-cup chihuahua!
He’s got a really big personality though:
Oh the memories

An Osprey waits for it's next meal.
I’ve been reading Moose Peterson’s Blog, where he has been posting updates from the ongoing Wildlife Photographer’s Base Camp. Boy does that bring back the memories.
I was on this trip at about the same time last year (they are a little earlier this time around) and let me tell you, the folks out there right now have no idea how lucky they are. They may think they do, but it really won’t sink in until later. I did a review of the trip on my old blog, which I’ll include below the jump for those who haven’t seen it yet.
The folks out there right now are probably tired, muddy and frazzled, but they are smack in the middle of an opportunity of a lifetime. Moose provides so much knowledge on one of these trips that it really takes weeks to sink in and I had many many “ah ha moments” for a long time following the trip.
